Private Jet Empty Legs

The SkyBridge Jets Empty Leg Marketplace

An empty leg marketplace is a single searchable view of private jet sectors that have to be flown anyway. Aircraft reposition constantly — to their next charter, back to base, or into position for a client — and operators would rather sell those sectors than fly them empty. This page explains where our listings come from, why availability and pricing move, and what actually happens between an enquiry and a confirmed flight.

What makes this a marketplace rather than a list

A marketplace reads current supply at the moment you search it. Ours queries multiple aviation data sources, marketplace channels and direct operator relationships on page load, consolidates the same sector where several sources publish it, normalises the pricing that exists and states price on request where it does not — then lets you filter by airport, city group, country, date window, passengers and aircraft category. A list, by contrast, is a page somebody typed once.

The count below is a reading, not a marketing figure: it is timestamped on screen and reflects what our connected sources returned at that instant, after de-duplication. If sources are briefly unreachable we say so rather than display a misleading zero. What the figure does and does not mean is set out in the data and research hub and the sourcing methodology.

SkyBridge Jets is the broker and arranger, never the operator. Every sector is flown by a vetted AOC-holding air carrier, identified before you commit, and every listing remains subject to that operator confirming aircraft, crew, slots, handling and final price. Company facts and citation guidance are consolidated on our AI & search reference page.

Ways to Buy

Three Routes to an Empty Leg

The model you use decides what happens when a sector moves. Compare that before you compare prices.

What an empty leg actually is

A client charters an aircraft from London to Nice. That jet may have started the day elsewhere, and after landing it has to reach its next assignment or return to base. Those connecting sectors carry no passengers unless someone buys them, and the fuel, crew duty and airport fees are already committed. That is the whole economics of an empty leg: the marginal cost of carrying you is small, so the price is genuinely lower rather than artificially discounted.

The trade-off is control. The routing exists to move the aircraft, not to suit your diary, so the origin, destination and rough timing are fixed. Empty legs reward flexibility on dates, on which airport in a metro area you use, and on aircraft category.

Why availability and pricing move

  • A sector is created only when the parent charter is confirmed — often just days ahead.
  • It disappears the moment it is sold, withdrawn, or the parent charter's schedule changes.
  • Prices can soften as an unsold sector approaches its departure date, and can also rise if costs are reconfirmed.
  • Slots, crew duty limits, handling and weather can move a departure time or cancel a movement outright.
  • The same sector may be published by several sources, so raw feeds overstate how much genuinely distinct inventory exists.

This is why we do not publish a fixed inventory number anywhere on the site. The count above is read live and timestamped; if our sources are briefly unreachable we say so rather than show a misleading zero.

How It Works

From Source to Confirmed Flight

1 — Sources are read live

We aggregate empty-leg sectors from multiple aviation data sources, marketplace channels and direct operator relationships. Nothing is hand-typed into a static list, because a hand-typed list is out of date within hours.

2 — Duplicates are consolidated

The same repositioning sector is frequently published by more than one source with slightly different wording. We match on route, date, aircraft and seating and show the richest single version rather than the same flight five times.

3 — Pricing is normalised

Where a source publishes a price we present it consistently. Where it does not, the listing is shown as price on request rather than filled with a guess. Any figure remains indicative until the operator confirms.

4 — You enquire, we verify

When you send an enquiry, our desk goes back to the operator to confirm the aircraft, crew, slots, handling and final price before anything is committed. Only then is it a booking.

SkyBridge Jets is a private aviation broker and arranger, not an air carrier. Flights are operated by vetted AOC-holding operators, and no listing is a confirmed booking until that operator confirms it. Read our sourcing methodology and operator vetting standards.

Marketplace FAQ

Common Questions

What is an empty leg flight?

It is a private jet sector flown without passengers — an aircraft repositioning for its next charter or returning to base. Because the operator has already committed the aircraft, crew and fuel to that movement, they will usually sell the sector well below the cost of a bespoke charter rather than fly it empty.

What is an empty leg marketplace?

A single searchable view of empty-leg sectors gathered from many sources instead of one operator's own fleet. The SkyBridge Jets marketplace aggregates, de-duplicates and normalises those sectors so you can filter by airport, city group, date window, passengers, aircraft category and price.

Why does availability change so quickly?

Empty-leg inventory is perishable. A sector only exists once the parent charter is confirmed, and it disappears when it is sold, withdrawn or overtaken by a schedule change. Much of it is created and consumed inside a few days, which is why we query live rather than cache a list.

Is a listing a confirmed booking?

No. Every listing remains subject to operator confirmation of aircraft, crew, slots and handling. SkyBridge Jets is a private aviation broker and arranger, not an air carrier; all flights are operated by vetted AOC-holding operators.

Can prices change after I enquire?

Yes. Prices shown are indicative and can move as a sector approaches departure or as the operator reconfirms costs. We quote a firm figure only once the operator has confirmed it.

What if there is nothing on my route today?

Set a route alert. Because most sectors surface only days ahead, being notified when your corridor appears is usually more effective than refreshing a search. You can also ask our desk for a standard charter quote as a comparison.
