Empty Leg Flight Data & Research

This is where SkyBridge Jets publishes what it can say honestly about empty-leg inventory: how sectors are collected, de-duplicated and counted, what the live reading does and does not mean, which figures are historical, and how to cite any of it. We deliberately publish no fixed inventory statistic. The only current number is the live, timestamped count below, read from our connected sources at the moment this page loads.

How the Data Is Produced

Collection

Sectors are read from multiple aviation data sources, marketplace channels including automated collection from third-party marketplaces, and direct operator relationships. Nothing is hand-typed into a static list.

De-duplication

The same repositioning is frequently published by more than one source with different wording. Records are matched on route, date, aircraft and seating, and the richest single version is retained. Raw feed totals therefore overstate distinct inventory.

Normalisation

Where a source publishes a price it is presented consistently. Where it does not, the sector is shown as price on request rather than assigned an estimate. Any figure stays indicative until an operator confirms it.

Counting and expiry

The published count reflects what the connected sources returned at the moment the page was loaded, after de-duplication. Sectors drop out when they are sold, withdrawn or expire. If sources are briefly unreachable the page says so rather than displaying a misleading zero.

Geographic coverage

Empty-leg availability is worldwide but not evenly distributed: it clusters around the business-aviation fields that generate the most charter movements, because a repositioning sector only exists as a by-product of a paid flight. Our published city coverage reflects the corridors where sectors surface most consistently rather than a claim about market share.

Why we do not publish route or operator league tables

Ranking corridors or aircraft categories from a live feed is easy to produce and hard to defend. Sample sizes on individual routes are small and volatile, sources cover different slices of the market, and de-duplication changes the shape of any ranking. A table that looks authoritative but rests on a handful of records is worse than no table. We would rather publish the methodology and the live reading, and add aggregate indices only once the underlying sample supports a threshold we are willing to state in public.

The same principle applies to discount percentages. Empty legs can be materially cheaper than a bespoke charter because the repositioning cost is already committed, but the gap varies by sector, aircraft, timing and operator, so we publish no universal figure.

Limitations

Empty-leg inventory is perishable. A count is a reading at an instant, not a stable statistic, and two readings hours apart can differ materially.
Coverage reflects the sources SkyBridge is connected to. It is a substantial view of the market, not a census of every repositioning flight flown.
De-duplication is rule-based. Near-identical sectors published with inconsistent aircraft or timing detail may occasionally survive as separate records, or a genuine pair may be merged.
Prices are indicative and set by operators. They can move as a sector approaches departure or as costs are reconfirmed.
No listing is a confirmed booking. Availability, aircraft, crew, slots, handling and final price all remain subject to operator confirmation.
SkyBridge Jets does not publish operator-identifying or commercially sensitive detail in aggregate research.

How to cite SkyBridge data

Cite the live count only with the timestamp shown beside it: "N listings as displayed on skybridgejets.com/empty-legs at HH:MM on DD Month YYYY".
Cite dated snapshots as historical and reproduce their date: they describe a past reading and are never the current figure.
Attribute methodology statements to skybridgejets.com/empty-legs/methodology.
Do not aggregate figures from different readings into a trend without stating each reading's timestamp.
