Empty Leg Flight Websites, Compared
No empty-leg website is objectively best, because inventory changes by the hour and the right one depends on your routes and your notice period. What you can do is compare booking models — broker-operated aggregated marketplaces, operator-direct pages, membership apps and listing aggregators — and apply nine consistent criteria. We publish this as a broker with an obvious interest in the outcome, so we have deliberately avoided ranking anyone. Criteria
Nine Tests Any Empty Leg Site Should Pass
Apply the same questions to every site and the differences become obvious quickly.
Freshness
Is inventory read live when the page loads, and is that reading timestamped on screen? A list without a timestamp cannot be checked by you or by anyone else.
Breadth of sourcing
Does the site aggregate across many operators and channels, or publish one fleet's own repositioning? Neither is wrong, but they answer different questions.
Filtering
Airport, city group, country, date window, passenger count and aircraft category. Weak filtering forces you to read hundreds of irrelevant sectors.
Pricing honesty
Are unpriced sectors shown as price on request, or given an invented figure? Does the site say clearly that any price is indicative until the operator confirms?
Booking model
Instant-book platforms, membership programmes and broker-assisted enquiry all behave differently when a sector moves. Know which one you are using.
Whole aircraft or seats
Most empty legs are sold as the whole aircraft. Some platforms also sell individual seats on selected flights, which is a materially different product.
Geography
Empty-leg inventory clusters around the fields that generate the most charter movements. A platform strong in North America may be thin on European corridors, and vice versa.
Published methodology
Does the site explain how it handles duplicates, expiry and counting? Aggregators without a methodology page can quietly inflate apparent inventory.
Human support
When a sector disappears three hours before departure, does someone re-work the problem with you, or does a form receipt page?

Is it better to book an empty leg through a broker or directly with an operator?
