Private Jet Luggage Guide: What You Can Actually Carry

Private jets have no fixed baggage allowance, but they do have hard physical limits: hold volume, hold door dimensions and total take-off weight. As a planning rule, allow one soft case and one carry-on per passenger on a light jet, and expect skis, golf bags or large hard cases to push you into a midsize or larger aircraft.

Key Facts

Very light jet hold
≈ 0.6–1.1 m³
Light jet hold
≈ 1.4–2.0 m³
Midsize hold
≈ 2.0–2.8 m³
Super-midsize hold
≈ 2.8–3.6 m³
Heavy jet hold
≈ 4.0–5.7 m³

Weight beats volume

On short sectors an aircraft is rarely weight-limited. On longer ones, every kilo of baggage competes directly with fuel. This is why the same aircraft can carry eight passengers and full luggage to Nice, but only five to Dubai.

Always declare realistic baggage at quote stage. Aircraft substitution on the day is far more disruptive than choosing correctly a week earlier.

Awkward items

  • Skis and snowboards: soft bags only on most light jets; hard cases often require midsize or larger.
  • Golf clubs: usually fine from midsize upward; check hold door width on light jets.
  • Pushchairs and car seats: declare in advance — cabin stowage is limited.
  • Musical instruments: may need a purchased seat, which must be agreed with the operator.
  • Firearms for sporting use: strictly subject to operator policy and both countries' law; never assume.

Soft bags win

Business-jet holds are irregular shapes. Two soft holdalls will almost always fit where one rigid case will not. If you are close to the limit, the single most effective change is switching luggage type rather than aircraft.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a baggage limit on a private jet?

There is no airline-style allowance, but there is a physical hold volume and a maximum take-off weight. Both are aircraft-specific and both are absolute.

Can I take liquids on a private jet?

Private terminals do not apply the 100 ml airline rule, but customs and destination rules still apply, and operator policy governs anything hazardous.

Can I bring skis on a light jet?

Often yes in soft bags, but with limited passenger numbers. Hard ski cases usually require a midsize or larger aircraft.
